Introduced in 2008, the Australian Silver Koala was the second of what is now three annual silver bullion coin releases. The popular coins debuted with the Australian Kookaburra in 1990, which was the only offering until the Australian Silver Koala debuted. More recently, the mint added a new annual release with the Australian Silver Kangaroo.

The koala is a native marsupial species that you’ll only find in Australia. Although often referred to as the koala bear, the marsupials are actually nocturnal in nature and spend as much as 20 hours each day sleeping and napping in trees.
