In reality, the Stock Horse is an animal that grew into its own species over the course of Australian history. A rugged and unforgiving continent, the early explorers and settlers of Australia needed a horse equally rugged to help conquer its vast expanses. The Australian Stock Horse is a breed known for its stamina and strength, and was bred through a combination of Thoroughbred and Arab horses, as well as Timor and Welsh Mountain ponies.
The 2014 1 oz Silver Australian Stock Horse Coin is the second in a planned series of 10 designs, with a new release each year, all of which feature the Stock Horse in different poses. This year’s design is known as the Galloping Horse, with Rearing Horse launching the series in 2013, and subsequent designs including the Leaping Horse (2015) and Grazing Horse (2016)
